Lieu + David {Engagement Photography}

One of the first things that we learned about Lieu and David was that they *love* Sakura (cherry blossom) trees. Now just about everyone in Toronto loves cherry blossoms — the crowds flock to High Park each spring to see the trees in bloom — but these two are serious. Lieu and David have even sourced and planted (no, let’s be accurate, nurtured), Sakura at their cottage. There was no question for them — cherry blossoms had to be included in their engagement shoot.

We were really excited to work with Lieu and David — photography is important to them and they’re willing to do whatever it took to get beautiful photographs. For the best natural light, we need to shoot shortly after sunrise or in the last couple of hours before sunset. A lot of our couples are not early risers, and we get that (really – who likes getting up when five is the first number on the clock?!). But to ensure that we had High Park to ourselves and for the softest, prettiest light, Lieu and David were up at what most people would consider to be an unreasonable hour. It was *so* worth it though…

With our late spring this year, the Sakura were much slower in reaching full bloom. Once we had a stretch of warmer weather though, the bloom was fast and furious — an explosion of blossoms — but short lived. When we shot Lieu and David, even though the Sakura had only been in bloom for a few days, if you waited for a gust of wind, blossoms would flutter and swirl toward the ground…

After a quick wardrobe change, we were off to explore more of the park…

Just gorgeous, Lieu. Wow…

With the sun rising higher in the sky and the park filling up, we headed down towards the water amongst the tall grasses and rushes to a few of the more private places we had picked out. Love the light in this series — perfect for a few close, intimate shots.

We love it when our couples bring items to their shoots that are personal to them or their stories. David proposed with a ring pop while he and Lieu were on vacation. Why not the real engagement ring, you ask? David wanted custom rings but just couldn’t wait any longer. Besides, nobody wants to get caught with the ring in airport security. Though that would make for a great story come to think of it!

We had a great time working with you, Lieu and David!
