We went to Paris for a week on our way home from Tanzania. Before wandering the streets in search of wine, bread and cheese, we made made a pilgrimage to Vimy to visit the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.
Overlooking the Douai Plains, shrouded in December’s grey rains and mist, it was difficult not to become a little somber while thinking about what happened here almost 100 years ago. The forging of our nation’s identity did not come cheaply.
Today is Vimy Ridge Day here in Canada so we thought we’d share a few of our photos of the monument itself.
